Our teeth are more than just a part of our physical appearance; they are also crucial to our ability to eat and to communicate. When we lose our teeth, those two abilities that we’ve had our entire lives are thrown into jeopardy. It can be a scary experience.
When you undergo complete or nearly complete tooth loss, there’s no need to be worried. Thanks to modern-day technological advances, your situation doesn’t have to remain permanent. At Drs Chapman & Owens, we provide patients with traditional, implant-supported, or specialty dentures.
What Are Dentures?
Not having enough teeth to eat, smile, and talk can be devastating. Dentures can restore your ability to do all those things once more. Dentures are prosthetics designed to replace missing teeth. There are several different kinds of dentures.
- Traditional: These dentures are full sets of replacement teeth, the type that you might have seen with your grandparents. This option is still a great one for many patients.
- Implant-supported: These types of dentures are a more permanent solution. They’re supported by four or more dental implants affixed to areas along the upper and lower jaw. Where traditional or custom implants often rest on the gums, implant-supported dentures are fixed on the implants.
- Specialty: Specialty dentures are tailored to you and your mouth. They can be either partial or complete sets, depending on your unique needs. Specialty dentures also include immediate dentures, which you can use when you need a set of teeth during a waiting period for a more permanent set.
Whether you qualify for a certain type of denture depends on your overall oral health and your particular needs. Talk with us to figure out which type of denture you qualify for and which would be best for you.
